Is Jesus God - What did John and Paul say?

Let’s take a look at more from the New Testament who we are told Jesus actually is.

John 1 - The Word Became Flesh

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.'" 16From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God, but the One and Only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

Now if it wasn’t clear to you let me point out that the Word is Jesus. This is clear from verse 14, the Word became flesh. Let’s exchange ‘Word’ with ‘Jesus’ and for God where it is referring to God the Father, I will exchange God with ‘God the Father’. Notice, In the beginning was Jesus, Jesus was with the Father in the beginning. Says Jesus was God. If you check the original Greek, verse 1 and 18, it says God, not ‘a’ god as the Jehovah witness’s watch tower translation has.

1In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with (God the Father), and Jesus was God. 2(Jesus) was with (God the Father) in the beginning. 3Through (Jesus) all things were made; without (Jesus) nothing was made that has been made. 4In (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

10(Jesus) was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

14 (Jesus) became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of (Jesus) the One and Only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God (the Father), but (Jesus) the One and Only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him (God the Father) known. … NKJV - The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthians also said,

1 Cor. 8: 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

Read how John starts his first epistle. He wrote his epistles first. The gospel of John is actually the last book of the New Testament to be written. He wrote the book of Revelation before he wrote his epistles and the gospel of John.

1 John 1: 1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal lifewhich was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

We see Jesus was from the beginning, he is the Word of life, Jesus is the eternal life. Paul gives us a clear explanation. It will help with what we just read from John.

Colossians 1 - The Supremacy of Christ

Let’s do the same here with using his name where it uses (Son, Him, He) with Colossians 1: 15 thru 20. By the way, the Jehovah witness’s translation adds ‘other’, says ‘all other things’. Again, check the Original Greek, there’s no ‘other’. You see, they believe Jesus was a created being, the arc angel Michael. But that’s certainly not what we are seeing from the scriptures. Keep reading.

15The Son (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him (Jesus) all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by (Jesus) and for (Jesus). 17(Jesus) is before all things, and in (Jesus) all things hold together. 18And (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church; (Jesus) is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19For God (the Father) was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20and through (Jesus) to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

All the scriptures from the Old as well as from the New Testament say that Jesus created everything, angels and heaven as well. You see that God the Father created everything through Jesus. Jesus created it all. Without Jesus nothing was made that has been made.   We see the Son (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, that (Jesus) is before all things.

You see here in Colossians 1 verse 15 that Paul said that Jesus was the firstborn of all creation, not the first created, nor created. Jesus, the Son, was not created by the Father. Jesus was ‘born’ out of God the Father in the beginning. Jesus, the Son, was in God, was in the Father. John 10: 30 I and the Father are one. John 14: 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.

Jesus was born from the center of the being of God. From the bosom of the Father. Hebrews 1: 5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? This occurred in the beginning. In John we’re told Jesus is the One and Only, the only begotten. This was not said of any angel, so Jesus and Lucifer, satan, could not be brothers as Mormons believe. From what we have read, Jesus created Lucifer, as well as Michael, Gabriel and all the other angels. So he cannot be the arc angel Michael as the Jehovah’s wittiness’s believe. We see Jesus was not created like the angels.

Paul, used two separate words, born and created. These two words meaning are separate and distinct. Born and created are not the same. If Paul believed that Jesus was a created being like the angels, he would not have used two separate words with two different meanings, he would have said Jesus was the first created over all creation.

Firstborn is the Greek word, G4416 prōtotokos, pro-tot-ok'-os first born (usually as noun, literally or figuratively): - firstbegotten (-born). With verse 16 we see, 16 For in him all things were created: Created is the Greek word, ktizō, ktid'-zo to fabricate, that is, found (form originally): - create, Creator, make. .. Born and created are not the same. These two words meaning are separate and distinct.

With verses 16 and 17, four times we are told that Jesus created ‘all things’ and that Jesus is before ‘all things’. Jehovah’s witnesses, with the watch tower translation of the bible, they add the world ‘other’, saying ‘all other things’. They do this to support their teaching that Jesus was a created being like the angles, thus he cannot be God, he cannot be Jehovah. Check the original Greek. You can even check the Greek on their website. The word ‘other’ is not there. The original Greek says ‘all things’.

Those that believe and teach that Jesus is a created being, the first of God’s creation, like to use Revelation 3 verse 14 where some translations have ‘the beginning’ of the creation of God.

The KJV and NKJV reads:

Rev. 3: 14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

The Greek word translated ‘beginning’ is Strongs G746 ar-khay' which can mean, beginning, origin, a commencement, the person or thing that commences, that by which anything begins to be, the origin, the active cause, chief (in various applications of order, time, place or rank): - beginning, corner, (at the, the) first (estate), magistrate, power, principality, principle, ruler. Definition: beginning, origin.

Some other translations read:

NIV - Rev. 3: 14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.

CSB - Rev. 3: 14 “Write to the angel of the church in Laodicea: Thus says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the originator of God’s creation:

NASB – Rev. 3: 14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Origin of the creation of God, says this:

TLB – Rev. 3: 14 “Write this letter to the leader of the church in Laodicea: “This message is from the one who stands firm, the faithful and true Witness of all that is or was or evermore shall be, the primeval source of God’s creation:

NLV – Rev. 3:14 “Write this to the angel of the church in the city of Laodicea: ‘The One Who says, Let it be so, the One Who is faithful, the One Who tells what is true, the One Who made everything in God’s world, says this:

Jesus is saying with Revelation 3 verse 14 that he is the ruler, the originator, the origin of, the source of all creation. The One Who made everything. Everything had its beginning with and by Jesus, by the Son. This goes along with, is consistent with what we read from John and Paul. Jesus is not a created being. He is unique, one of a kind. The only begotten Son of God.

Col. 1: 16For by him (all things) were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; (all things) were created by him and for him. 17He is before (all things), and in him (all things) hold together.

Paul said that Jesus was the firstborn of all creation. With John chapter one verses 14 and 18 we are told that Jesus is the One and Only Son, the only begotten Son. The Greek word is, Strongs monogenēs mon-og-en-ace From G3441 and G1096; only born, that is, sole: - only (begotten, child). .. "one-and-only" and 1085 /génos, "offspring") – properly, one-and-only; "one of a kind" – literally, "one (monos) of a class, genos" (the only of its kind). .. Usage - only, only-begotten; unique.

We see Jesus is unique, one of a kind, the only born, the only begotten. Jesus is not like any created being; Jesus is not like any angel. We see Jesus was not created, Jesus was born, thus the only begotten Son of God, while the angels and everything else in heaven, heaven as well, and on earth were created by the Son, created by Jesus. Jesus is before all creation. The description of Jesus is not the same as that of angels.

Jesus, the Son was eternally in God, eternally with the Father. With Jesus being born, coming from within God, he is God. God has eternally been Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Colossians 1: 19For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, (Jesus). Jesus is "God with us". Remember Matthew chapter one verse 23, "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" —which means, "God with us." And Isaiah chapter 9 verse 6, For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. We’re told ‘to us a son is given’. God the Father gave his only begotten Son, His one and only Son. John 3: 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. By the way, one and only, or only begotten with John 3 verse 16 is the same Greek word as with John 1 verses 14 and 18.

With verse 10 and 11 Paul was referring back to Isaiah. Remember, the LORD is Jehovah.

Isa. 45: 22 “Turn to me and be saved,
   all you ends of the earth;
   for I am God, and there is no other.

23 By myself I have sworn,
   my mouth has uttered in all integrity
   a word that will not be revoked:
Before me every knee will bow;
   by me every tongue will swear.

24 They will say of me, ‘In the LORD alone
   are deliverance and strength.’”

Philippians 2: Christ Jesus:

In Philippians chapter 2, we see his very nature is God. We are told that Jesus didn’t consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage, rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. With that we are being told that Jesus, the Son, was equal with the Father from the beginning. Jesus, while here in a human body, didn’t use his equality with the Father, didn’t take advantage of being co-equal with the Father, didn’t take advantage of being God, for Jesus made himself nothing, he became a servant. He became a human being. The Father is greater in position because he is the Father, but the Son is co-equal in authority. In Matthew 28 verse 18 Jesus said, Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. We just read Colossians chapter 1 verse 19 that God (the Father) was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in Jesus.

Phil. 2: Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God (the Father) exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

John 5: 16 So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. 17 In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” 18 For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. 22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.

26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.

Hebrews 1, God’s final Word: His Son.

In Hebrews chapter one we see Jesus is the radiance of God and the exact representation of his being. We see Jesus is superior to the angels. So he is superior to Michael and Gabriel or any other angel.  We see he has been appointed heir of all things. We see again that Jesus created the universe. Compare Colossians 1 verse 17, He (Jesus) is before all things, and in him (Jesus) all things hold together with Hebrews 1 verse 3, The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

Heb. 1: 1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and (through whom also he made the universe). 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,

“You are my Son;
   today I have become your Father”?

Or again,

“I will be his Father,
   and he will be my Son”?

6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,

“Let all God’s angels worship him.”

7 In speaking of the angels he says,

“He makes his angels spirits,
   and his servants flames of fire.”

But about the Son he says,

Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
   a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.

9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
   therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
   by anointing you with the oil of joy.”

10 He also says,

In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
   and the heavens are the work of your hands
.

11 They will perish, but you remain;
   they will all wear out like a garment.

12 You will roll them up like a robe;
   like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
   and your years will never end.”

13 To which of the angels did God ever say,

“Sit at my right hand
   until I make your enemies
   a footstool for your feet”?

We see there’s a distinction between the Son, Jesus, and the angels. The writer of Hebrews with verse 8 and 9 was referring back to Psalm 45 verse 6 and 7.

Psalm 45: 6 Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
   a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
   therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
   by anointing you with the oil of joy.

Again, here with Psalm 45 verses 6 and 7 God is the Hebrew, 'ĕlôhı̂ym el-o-heem' Plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God;

We see that Jesus, the Son, existed in heaven with God the Father before he was conceived in the human body of the virgin Mary. He was in God, with the Father in eternality past. We’ve seen that the Son was in God the Father, was born from within God the Father. He existed with the Father from the beginning. The Son is eternal with the Father.

Jesus shared in our humanity.

One must understand, when Jesus was here, he was here as a man, in a human body. To be a servant. We see this from Paul in Philippians 2 verses 6,7 & 8. That’s why you see in the gospels Jesus referred to himself as the son of man, which is the phrase the Prophet Daniel used of the Messiah. This is why he referred to the Father as his God. This is why we see he prayed. Jesus while here in a human body, was fully God, but didn’t use being God to his own advantage, he was fully man, he was fully a human being. Again, remember Matthew chapter one verse 23, "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" —which means, "God with us." And Isaiah chapter 9 verse 6, For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus had to become a human to experience everything like we do, from conception to death, to become the sacrifice for our sins, to make atonement for our sins.

Hebrews 2: 9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. … 14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— … 17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

Hebrews 4: 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

Now Jesus is our High Priest, sitting at the right hand of God the Father, meaning, in all the power and authority of the Father. Rev. 5: 6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. .. In case you’re not aware, the Lamb is a symbolic reference to Jesus. We are told that Jesus is the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. John 1:29, 36. We also see from Colossians chapter one, verse 20, through Jesus, that God was reconciling to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

We see from Hebrews chapter one that Jesus is referred to as God and Lord. Look at this from what Jesus said from John 14 verses 7-9. Compare it with what Jesus said with John chapters 1 and 10. Can’t begin to explain and understand this. But Jesus said it.

Jn. 14: 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

John 1: 18No one has ever seen (God the Father), but (Jesus) the One and Only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him (God the Father) known.

Known or declared or revealed, is from the Greek word, exēgeomai ex-ayg-eh'-om-ahee From G1537 and G2233; Definition: To explain, to interpret, to declare Meaning: I lead, show the way; met: I unfold, narrate, declare. Word Origin: From ἐκ (ek, "out of") and ἡγέομαι (hēgeomai, "to lead" or "to guide")

Usage: The verb "exégeomai" means to lead out or to unfold, often used in the context of explaining or interpreting something. In the New Testament, it is used to describe the act of making something clear or manifest, particularly in relation to divine truths or teachings. It implies a thorough and detailed explanation, often with authority or insight.

Jesus has made known, revealed, declared who God is.

John 10: 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” 31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” 33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

Compare Hebrews 1 verse 3, John 14 verse 9 with John 12:44:

Heb. 1: 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being,

John 14: 9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.

John 12: 44 Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.

Compare John 1 verse 18, No one has ever seen God (the Father), but (Jesus) the One and Only Son, who is himself God, with what Jesus said with, John 5:  37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form. .. No one has never seen God the Father, seen his form, only Jesus, God the Son. This could possibly include the angels also.

Now to the argument that how can Jesus be God if no one has seen God. One, it is addressing the glory of God, the Father in his glory. Second, remember what we just read from Hebrews and Philippians. When Jesus was here, he was here as a man, in a human body. To be a servant. We see this from Paul in Philippians 2 verses 6,7 & 8.

We’ve just read Jesus is the image of the invisible God, being in very nature God, he is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being. Jesus is the firstborn over all creation. He is superior to the angels. By Jesus all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; Ephesians 6: 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. All things were created by Jesus and for Jesus. Jesus is before all things. With Hebrews chapter one, we’re told all God’s angels are to worship him.

Here's just a few scriptures that tell us Jesus is God.

Romans 9: 4the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. 5Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.

Titus 2:13 while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

The blessed hope, the glorious appearing, the Apostle Paul is referring to the rapture.

1 John 5: 20We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

1 Tim. 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory. NKJV

With the first chapter of John we’re told, In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with (God the Father), and Jesus was God. Jesus, who is himself God. Says Jesus was God, not a god. Jesus was with (God the Father) in the beginning. Through Jesus all things were made; without Jesus nothing was made that has been made. Through Jesus the whole universe, all the planets, all the stars, all the angels were made, were created. In Jesus was life. With 1 John chapter one, we see Jesus was from the beginning, he is the Word of life, he is the eternal life. In Colossians chapter one, we see the Son, Jesus, is the image of the invisible God, that Jesus is before all things, that all the fullness of God dwells in Jesus. In Philippians chapter two, we see his very nature is God. In Hebrews chapter one we see Jesus is the radiance of God and the exact representation of his being, that Jesus, the Son, was equal with the Father from the beginning. From all the scriptures, we see that Jesus eternally existed with the Father.

We’re told in Deuteronomy that the LORD our God is one.

Duet. 6:  4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.

The LORD is yehôvâh yeh-ho-vaw' – Jehovah. God is 'ĕlôhı̂ym el-o-heem' used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God;

As I said above, it appears that when Jesus said, John 10 verse 30, I and the Father are one, sounds like he meant more than He and the Father are one in agreement.

From all these scriptures we have just read, the LORD, Jehovah is referring to Jesus. Jesus is Jehovah. Comparing scripture with scripture, that’s what the scriptures are saying. That’s what the context of the scriptures are saying.

But from the scriptures we see there is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Here we see the Father and the Son.

John 5: 30 By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me. 31 “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. 32 There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is true. … 36 “I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,

John 8: 14 Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. 17 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true. 18 I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”

Here with Jesus’ baptism, we see the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit also.

Matthew 3; 13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Mark 1: 9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

Matthew gives us from John’s point of view, Mark gives from Jesus’.

We’re told the LORD our God is one, but we see that there is the Father and the Son. This is a mystery, just like we’re told, when a man and woman are married, they become one, but they are still two separate beings.  See also Mt. 19:5, Mk. 10:8, Eph. 5:31.

Gen. 2: 23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
   and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
   for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

1 Tim. 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh,

We see that God, el-o-heem', plural, exists in, has revealed himself, has made himself known in the persons of, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That’s what the scriptures are saying. Remember above, Strongs Hebrew H410, God, 'êl, especially the Almighty. But Strongs H430, God, el-o-heem', is plural, meaning, in the plural of the supreme God; .. The meaning is the supreme Almighty God, in the plural, only one God, but God, el-o-heem', plural. Well, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. We see they are three separate beings, co-existing, but one in essence. Essence - the basic, real, and invariable nature of a thing or its significant individual feature or features. Philosophy. the inward nature, true substance, or constitution of anything. A property or group of properties of something without which it would not exist or be what it is.

God is, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. One God, but three eternally co-existing persons.

Mt. 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

1 John 5: 7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

We just read, Colossians chapter 1 verse 19, that all the fullness of God dwelt in Jesus.

Keep reading. We will get more insight from Jesus himself. We will see God the Holy Spirit. We will look at what the Bible tells us about the Holy Spirit. We will look more into the name Jesus. Is the name of God Jehovah, or is it Jesus.

From the book of Revelation, we will look more at what Jesus was referring to when he said he was the First and the Last? To get more insight into what Jesus meant, all we need to do is go to the Old Testament. We’ll compare New Testament scriptures with Old Testament scriptures. The Bible interprets itself. We’re getting deeper into the scriptures. We see that the New Testament descriptions of Jesus is the same as the Old Testament scriptures descriptions of Jehovah, of God.
